Israel-Iran conflict LIVE: Israel attacks Western Iran, warns Khamenei he risks fate like Saddam’s

Israel on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) appeared to be expanding its air campaign on Tehran five days after its surprise attack on Iran’s military and nuclear programme, as U.S. President Donald Trump posted an ominous message warning residents of the city to evacuate. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Iran has urged “all” Indian nationals and People of Indian Origin who are using “own” vehicles to leave the city for a safer location outside.

Indian students in Tehran have been moved out of the city for reasons of safety, through arrangements made by the Embassy, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday. Separately, some Indians have been facilitated to leave Iran through the border with Armenia, the MEA said.

Israel’s military also claimed on Tuesday (June 17, 2025) it had killed Ali Shadmani, who it identified as Iran’s wartime chief of staff and said was the most senior military commander.

Israel says its sweeping assault on Iran’s top military leaders, nuclear scientiests, uranium enrichment sites and ballistic missile programme is necessary to prevent its longtime adversary from getting any closer to building an atomic weapon. The strikes have killed at least 224 people since Friday.
